I am pleased to announce that a new program, providing 24 hour services for women experiencing homelessness who need warm and safe refuge from Toronto’s winter weather will be opening at the Church of the Epiphany and St. Mark’s, 201 Cowan Avenue, just south of Queen St West.
This service is part of the City of Toronto’s 24-hour Winter Respite Services. It will offer a place to sleep, warm food and drinks, referrals to community services, and housing assistance to up to 21 women.
The service will begin December 20th with an overnight services from 7 PM to 7 AM for women, the 24-hour service will start no later than December 29th.
The Salvation Army Toronto Housing and Homeless Supports will be operating this program for the first year. The Salvation Army has a long history of providing supports for vulnerable populations and were chosen by the City to run this 24-hour service for Women in Parkdale.
I will be co-hosting a Community Drop-in early in the New Year with the Salvation Army staff. This will be an opportunity to meet staff and ask questions. Details on date and location will be provided once confirmed.
In the meantime, the Salvation Army has provided the following contact information:
