As an environmental activist in the City over the last 20 years I have often fought against expressway expansion in our City. So, at the first opportunity I moved a motion at the City’s budget committee to remove all money from the Front Street Extension project and to reallocate it to more environmentally sound waterfront projects. This motion passed, but was overturned by the City’s Executive Committee. When the issue came up for a full debate at City Council on March 7th, Councillor Adam Vaughn moved a similar motion to mine. In a narrow vote 22 -20 our plan to stop the Front Street Extension was deferred for consideration at a later date (most likely later this year).
A clean green waterfront does not need more roads, so I will continue to work towards stopping the Front Street project.
