City of Toronto to host Family Fishing Festival weekend


City of Toronto staff will join members of the community to celebrate Family Fishing Festival at High Park and Toronto Island. This weekend event is a celebration of fishing in natural places and will include family games, face painting, environmental education and lots of fishing.

Residents can take part at Grenadier Pond in High Park (1873 Bloor St. W.) on Saturday, July 6 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and at Centre Island on Sunday, July 7 from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. (Please note: registration is required for the Centre Island event – visit or call 416-392-8192 to register. The festival will take place during the Province of Ontario’s Licence-Free Family Fishing Week (July 6 to 14), when it is not necessary to have a licence to fish.

The festival is sponsored by Toronto Parks, Forestry and Recreation, in cooperation with the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority, Toronto Urban Fishing Ambassadors, Ontario Chinese Anglers Association, Canadian National Sportsmen’s Shows, Ontario’s Ministry of Natural Resources and the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters.
