HPCA Fundraiser: The Glass Menagerie @ The Village Playhouse – September 5

Posted on August 8, 2019

Join High Park Community Alliance for the Dress Rehearsal of The Glass Menagerie.

This memory play about the author’s fragile sister, their tenacious mother, and a gentleman caller has become a modern American classic.

“Some plays are so brilliant, so perceptive, so poignant that they can be seen time and again — each viewing revealing another gem. This is the case with The Glass Menagerie.”

For more information about the show, check out The Village Players website:

LEAF – Tree Planting Program

Posted on August 8, 2019

Did you know that the City has a goal of increasing tree canopy from its current 27% to 40%? Much of the opportunity for expanding the canopy resides on private property. So, planting on private land is not only a great way for you to help green our neighbourhood, but you will also enjoy the personal benefits of doing so for years to come!

Why plant more trees?

  • Trees beautify a property and provide shade/cooling on hot summer days
  • Human health, both physical and mental, is positively impacted by trees
  • Trees can reduce stormwater runoff and can provide habitat for pollinators and songbirds

Through the Backyard Tree Planting Program, property owners receive arborist advice on the selection and placement of native tree and shrub species, as well as planting services and instructions on how to care for the trees. All for an affordable price!

LEAF also offers Native Shrub Bundles to beautify your yard and attract pollinators and songbirds. For approximately $100, you will get four native shrubs (for the price of three), free delivery right to your door, species fact sheets, mulch and a planting and care guide.

  • Native Bee
  • Edible
  • Songbird
  • Small Yard
  • Privacy

Supplies are limited so bundles are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
For more information on how you can plant on your property at an affordable price, visit LEAF or call 1-888-453-6504.
