On May 28, 2019, Planning and Housing Committee directed that proposed Official Plan policy directions for inclusionary zoning be endorsed as the basis for consultation and requested City Planning staff to report back in Q4 2019 with the findings from the consultation, the results of any further analysis, and prepare recommended Official Plan inclusionary zoning policies.
Inclusionary zoning is a land use planning tool that would enable the City to require new residential developments to include affordable housing units. Inclusionary zoning is one policy solution to help address the housing needs of Toronto’s low-income and moderate-income households (earning roughly between $35,000 and $88,500 a year depending household size).
City Planning staff will be hosting four public meetings to consult on proposed policy directions for inclusionary zoning. These meetings will provide an opportunity for the public to learn more about inclusionary zoning and share ideas and feedback on how this new affordable housing tool should apply in Toronto.
