Work description and purpose
Starting on July 11 at 8 a.m., TTC track crews will be replacing worn rail at the westbound streetcar stop on Howard Park Avenue at Indian Road.
The old rail will be removed and new rail installed, welded and grinded. The new rail will be stored and welded in the track allowance on Howard Park Avenue, just west of Sunnyside Avenue. This work will take place while the 506 Carlton route continues to operate as buses due to construction on College Street.
Concrete milling machine
In an effort to reduce disruption to streetcar service during work of this nature, the TTC is now using a different method (milling) of removing the concrete from the track area to expose the rail for replacement. The traditional method of breaking concrete from the track area affected service up to seven days. The milling method will reduce service disruption to approximately four days.
The work at this location will take approximately four days. Work, including milling concrete, will generally take place during the day between 8 a.m. and 9 p.m.* Concrete will cure overnight.
TTC service and traffic
To create a safe work zone during the rail work, traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction. A portion of street parking through the work zone and rail storage area will be temporarily restricted. There will be no changes to TTC service as this activity will take place within the TTC track allowance. 506 buses will follow regular service.
Thank you for your patience as we work to improve transit in Toronto.
