Toronto Parks, Forestry and Recreation Photo Contest

Posted on December 14, 2015

The City of Toronto’s Parks, Forestry and Recreation division is holding a Snap & Share photo contest, presented by Nikon Canada, to highlight the wonders of winter in Toronto’s parks, ravines and recreation spaces.

From today (December 14) until February 19, the public is invited to snap and share photos in six categories for a chance to win great prizes. Contest categories include: Colour in Winter, Family Fun, Walking in a Winter Wonderland, the Great Indoors, Winter Wildlife, and Toronto Walking Tour. The last category will be exclusive to participants of a photography walking tour, which will take place in High Park on February 6 and be led by Nikon Canada Ambassador and professional photographer Kristian Bogner. The contest will also include a People’s Choice component.

The expert panel of judges for the contest includes Bogner; Ed Robertson, lead singer of Barenaked Ladies and an avid photographer; and Michelle Valberg, a wildlife and adventure photographer and Nikon Ambassador.
Entries will be evaluated based on content, composition, impact and technical criteria. Judges will review short-listed photos and winners will be notified in April 2016. Prizes include a Nikon D3300 HD-SLR camera with a two-lens kit and a camera bag, three Nikon COOLPIX AW130 cameras, two Nikon COOLPIX S3700 cameras and a Photographic Rockstar Workshop with contest judge Bogner. Winning images will be exhibited at City Hall and other civic centres and featured on the City’s website and in City communication materials.

This is the second Snap & Share photo contest. The first took place last summer/fall.

Those wishing to participate can get more information and submit their photos via http://www.toronto.ca/photocontest.

Installation of Dowling Avenue temporary pedestrian bridge

Posted on December 11, 2015

My office was just notified of the following:

Installation of Dowling Avenue temporary pedestrian bridge

The temporary bridge at Dowling Avenue to accommodate pedestrian and cyclist traffic is being installed this weekend, weather permitting. The temporary bridge is expected to be open for use by January.

To accommodate tonight’s bridge installation work, the Jameson gate to the westbound Gardiner Expressway is closed until 6 a.m. tomorrow (December 12). The westbound Gardiner Expressway at Dowling Avenue will be reduced to two lanes from 9 p.m. tonight until tomorrow at 6 a.m.

The Dowling Avenue and the Dunn Avenue Bridges over the Metrolinx Rail Corridor were removed during the weekend of November 21 and 22.

Great news!

The green area marking at the intersection of Annette-Dupont-Dundas is in progress.  When completed, this marking will connect to the bike lane at the west side of the intersection.

As part of this intersection work, the dashed line which directs turning motor vehicle traffic is also being adjusted, to further encourage safer road use for all.
