UPDATE: Subcommittee on Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation

Posted on August 24, 2015

Dear Friends,

Climate change is one of the most critical issues of our time, and we need to work together to build an environmentally responsible city. To address this urgent problem, the Subcommittee on Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation is working to advance various strategies to reduce Toronto’s carbon emissions by 80% by 2050 and reach City Council’s target.

As Chair of the Subcommittee, and on behalf of its members, I am emailing you to update you on the status of the Subcommittee and provide you with information on how you can continue to get involved.

A series of TalkTransformation! events are being held throughout the upcoming Fall and Winter months in order to generate effective strategies and policies to deal with urban climate change mitigation and adaptation. The events will feature innovative, knowledgeable speakers from a diverse range of fields, hosted by a member of the Climate Change Subcommittee, to incite meaningful discussions about climate change and carbon reduction in Toronto.

The first event will focus on Toronto’s climate change resiliency and adaptation strategies, and has been scheduled for September 24, 2015, 7:00 – 8:30PM, at Innis Town Hall, University of Toronto, 2 Sussex Avenue, Toronto.

The City is also seeking the public’s input on what questions and topics the experts should discuss at these events. Here is a link to this online workbook: https://cityoftoronto.fluidsurveys.com/s/TransformTO/

You can learn more about TransformTO: Climate Action for a Healthy, Equitable, and Prosperous Toronto at: http://toronto.ca/transformto

In the meantime, we believe it is crucial that you, as members of the public and leaders in civic action, stay involved. We urge you to continue working individually or in your community groups to come up with ideas on reducing Toronto’s greenhouse gas emissions.

I thank you for your contribution to this important initiative. Please do not hesitate to contact my office if you have any questions or concerns about the Subcommittee or the work that is being done.

Sincerely,

Councillor Gord Perks
