As you are likely aware, the City’s contractor successfully completed the removal of the Dufferin Street Bridge over the Metrolinx/GO Transit Rail Corridor this past weekend.
In general, the removal weekend was deemed to be an enormous success. However, on Sunday morning concerns were raised by the Contractor that they may not be able to complete all the work in time for re-opening the rail corridor for Monday morning rush hour. Accordingly, some modifications were required to facilitate the rail corridor to opening on time. These modifications included allowing the contractor to leave in place two beams, one at the north abutment and one at the south abutments. This is important because it will delay our scheduled re-opening of the pedestrian connection. The beams must be removed before the footings for the pedestrian bridge can be built.
At this point City Staff are estimating that the pedestrian bridge opening will be delayed for an additional two (2) weeks to approximately December 21st (from our previous estimate of December 7th).
Staff do not anticipate that this modification will impact the opening of the road bridges which are currently scheduled for mid-February, 2014.
