WALK TORONTO’S Walk and Roll Caravan GROUP WALK
On May 11, 2013, Walk Toronto shall be leading the Walk and Roll Caravan, its first important walking event. The march starts at St. James Park and ends at Queen’s Park, where participants can join cyclist groups at the Cycle and Sole rally promoting safe active transportation. The Caravan route shall pass by a huge variety of buildings and street features that are of pedestrian interest. Walkers are not only sure to have fun, but they shall see local examples of things that everyone is talking about. What’s a Complete Street? What’s a Privately Owned Public Space? Join the Walk and Roll Caravan and walk past the real thing in downtown Toronto!
Walkers will be assembling at the northeast corner of St. James Park at 12:00 noon. (Hear the bells of St. James Cathedral announce the time.) The walk departs at 12:30 p.m. and the pace will be modest on the 3.5 km. route. Midway, a rest stop is planned at a location where accessible washrooms are available. The Caravan arrives at Queen’s Park at 1:45 p.m., and all marchers are invited to attend the Cycle and Sole Rally that begins at 2:00 p.m.
The event is taking place on the Mother’s Day weekend. Moms are encouraged to turn out – with the rest of the family too, of course! To get in the Mother’s Day spirit, marchers should feel free to adorn their hat, coat or bag with flowers of any type. The event is called “The Walk and Roll Caravan” because it includes those who roll as well as walk: parents with strollers and wheelchair users are welcome.
