Use of Streets and Sidewalks Bylaw

In July, City Council approved the consultation process to amend the City’s current “Use of Streets and Sidewalks” Bylaw (Municipal Code Chapter 743).
What the amendments do is harmonize existing legislation from the former municipalities – the legislation that continues to govern activities in the public right of way e.g. permits for street events, banners on light poles, temporary light and street decorations, excavating in streets.

Urban Vegetable Garden Tour

The Horticultural Societies of Parkdale and Toronto’s first Urban Vegetable Garden Tour will take place in High Park Parkdale, a self-guided garden tour of 15 eclectic urban vegetable gardens and a free talk by noted author and urban farmer Lorraine Johnson at 2:00 at the High Park Baptist Church at Roncesvalles and Hewitt, plus mini-presentations by gardeners. Gardens range from community gardens, allotments, a rooftop container garden over a three-car garage, compact backyard container gardens, educational kids’ gardens, and a hockey rink that converts to a veg garden in the summer. Tickets available at Mabel’s, Another Story Bookshop, The Flower Room, Sweet Pea’s, $10 (cash only), $5 for students and seniors.

OMB Hearing For 1566 Queen St. W. (Parts & Labour)

The C of A decision on March 9th/2011 (to refuse a proposal from 1566 Queen St. W. to create a rooftop patio to be used in conjunction with the existing restaurant located in the one-storey building) has been appealed Parts and Labour to the Ontario Municipal Board for Toronto and East York District.  A hearing will take place before the OMB on October 19th/2011.  The city will be present and represent by legal.
