In partnership with the Indonesian Consulate General, a shadow puppet Wayang Kulit show will be held at Parkdale Library (1303 Queen St W) on Saturday, May 13th at 2:00pm.
Renowned for its elaborate puppets and complex music style this form of storytelling originated on the island of Java, Indonesia. Wayang is a Javanese word for shadow puppet theatre, sometimes the puppet itself is referred to as Wayang. UNESCO designated Wayang Kulit, the best known of the Indonesian Wayang, as a masterpiece of Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity on November 7, 2003. In return for the acknowledgement, UNESCO required Indonesians to preserve their heritage.
