The History of Parkdale-High Park

Ward 14 was home to 50,640 people and consisted of 24,125 households in 2006. Ward 14 is situated in south west Toronto. It is bounded by Keele Street and Parkside Drive to the west, the CNR/CPR tracks to the east, the CPR tracks to the north and Lake Ontario to the south. Ward 14 has a physical area of 5 square kilometres.

The current federal Member of Parliament (MP) as of May 2nd, 2011 is Peggy Nash of the New Democratic Party (NDP). Cheri DiNovo, also of the NDP, is the Member of Provincial Parliament (MPP) as of September 14th, 2006. DiNovo was re-elected in the 2007 and 2011 Ontario General Elections.

  • The population of Ward 14 fell by 7.7% between 2001 and 2006.
  • 39% of occupied private dwellings were in high-rise apartments and 36% were in low-rise apartments in 2006.
  • In 2006, 29% of occupied private dwellings were owned while 71% were rented.

2006 Census of Canada

Statistics Canada released population counts from the 2006 Census of Canada. Toronto’s population was 2,503,281 in 2006.
