Municipal Licensing and Standards is reviewing the Holiday Shopping Bylaw. On April 26, 2017, City Council received a report on the first phase of the Holiday Shopping Bylaw review. As part of the second phase of this review, Council directed staff to conduct additional public consultations on the impact of allowing grocery stores and others that sell prepared meals to be open on public holidays. There are nine public holidays including: New Year’s Day, Family Day, Good Friday, Easter Sunday, Victoria Day, Canada Day, Labour Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.
A public meeting is being held to provide an opportunity for residents and businesses to view proposed changes, speak with staff, and provide feedback on the proposed changes. It will be held at 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 19, North York Memorial Community Hall, Rooms Gold A & B, 5100 Yonge Street.
A report on Holiday Shopping is expected at the October 20, 2017 Licensing and Standards Committee meeting.
