Mandatory Downspout Disconnection: Reminder of December 3 Deadline

Mandatory downspout disconnection is already in effect for most of Toronto, with the final (third) area of the
city required to disconnect this week: December 3, 2016.

Disconnecting downspouts reduces the amount of rainwater that enters the sewer system, which helps:
-Keep the system from overloading
-Reduce the risk of basement flooding
-Decrease the release of polluted rainwater runoff into local waterways

It is important that the work is done safely and properly. Residents and property owners are encouraged to
visit www.toronto.ca/downspout or call 311 for more information and tips on how “get disconnected” including:
-A video on downspout disconnection
-Tips on how to disconnect safely and properly.
-Copies of the exemption and financial assistance application forms
