This Saturday, at 9am, planningAlliance is hosting the second charette meeting at St. Joe’s Hospital. The City of Toronto is undertaking a study to create a Master Plan for the Western Waterfront. The Master Plan will guide decision making within the area by recommending the type and location of park facilities that meet a range of community needs, as well as improvements to the transportation, transit and pedestrian links with surrounding neighbourhoods.

Riding your bike helps your health and the environment

The City of Toronto is hosting Bike Month in May, a month-long series of events and activities that celebrate the growing biking community in our City.

Cycling is a great way to get around the City. And, when you bike, you are doing a number of positive things for you and your community.

You are helping in the efforts to stem climate change by helping to reduce the harmful emissions in our air and you are assisting the community by reducing our dependence on vehicular traffic. That helps reduce traffic congestion.

And then, there’s the effect on you. Cycling is a positive physical activity that leads to a healthy lifestyle and healthy communities.

It’s a combination that just can’t be beat!

Don’t forget, one of the major highlights of Bike Month is the Toronto Criterium – a high speed circuit bike race on Friday, May 30th. Riders will compete for $20,000 in prizes on a course near the St. Lawrence Market. Come out and watch the action. There will also be a bike expo on site.

Join in the fun. Join bike Week 2008. From film screenings to art exhibits, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. Go to www.toronto.ca/cycling/events for a list of these special activities.
