Yesterday at Toronto and East York Community Council (TEYCC) Transportation Services requested approval of a full road closure and sidewalk closures on Dufferin Street, from Queen Street West to Peel Avenue in order to accommodate construction of the Dufferin Bridge Extension. This road closure was requested by Metrolinx. In addition, Transportation Services requested approval to amend the current parking regulations on Peel Avenue and on Gladstone Avenue (Ward 18), between Queen Street West and Peel Avenue, in order to facilitate traffic flow along the proposed detour route during construction.
As you may be aware, Metrolinx plans to expand its Barrie GO line. Within the Georgetown South Rail Corridor at the Dufferin Street Bridge, near the intersection of Dufferin Street and Queen Street West, this expansion will result in an additional track on the north side of the corridor. In order to accommodate this track, Metrolinx requires the aforementioned closures for 110 days.
The staff reports for this closure can be found below:
TEYCC approved the request yesterday. All traffic lanes, bike lanes and sidewalks on Dufferin Street, between Queen Street West and Peel Avenue will be closed from SEPTEMBER 12th until DECEMBER 31st, 2016. Metrolinx requires the closures and parking amendments in order to complete their work.
More information will follow as Metrolinx works to communicate this closure out to neighbouring residents and businesses. Once I have the flyer, I will be sure to post it on my website, www.gordperks.ca .
