Consultation for Rooming House Tenants – Wednesday, December 5

The City is holding a consultation at PARC next Wednesday for tenants of dwelling rooms (rooming houses, boarding houses) on a draft Official Plan amendment to address the lost of dwelling rooms across the city.

The amendment includes provisions related to protections and support for rooming house tenants affected by the loss of their housing due to demolition (https://www.toronto.ca/legdocs/mmis/2018/pg/bgrd/backgroundfile-115659.pdf)

The City is interested in hearing from tenants who could potentially benefit from this new policy. Specifically, they want to know what kind of protections & support (the right to return to a unit in the new building? Moving costs? Help finding new housing? A rent subsidy?) would be helpful and necessary if faced with losing their housing due to demolition.

A flier for the consultation is attached.

Consultation details:

Wednesday, December 5th: 5:30-7:30pm, with pizza & intro at 5pm

PARC (1499 Queen St. W), upstairs boardroom

Please spread the word to any rooming house tenants who might be interested in participating.
