Pre-Application Meeting for 1488 Queen Street West – February 20, 2020

The owners of the property at 1488 Queen Street West are looking to redevelop this property. Their proposal is to add a 6-storey building with residential units and ground-floor retail. The owners are hosting a  pre-application Community Meeting on February 20, 2020 at 20 West Lodge Ave, 6:30-8:30pm. Councillor Perks and City Planning Staff will be in attendance.

Family Day fun at Sorauren Park

Monday, Feb. 17, 2 to 7 pm, Fieldhouse & Town Square

The Friends of Sorauren Park and the Sorauren Farmers’ Market are joining forces to make Family Day extra special at the park this year. Activities start at 2 pm, with the Market starting at 3 pm as always in the Fieldhouse.

All-ages ball hockey on the Town Square starts at 2 pm… bring your own sticks. The Market will have live music, face-painting and kids activities. A maple syrup and candy-making demo will complement seasonal produce prepared in the outdoor bake oven. Chocosol will have a hot-chocolate station. Read more.

Colborne Lodge Drive closed the week of February 10th

Due to the reconstruction of the Colborne Lodge staircase at High Park, Colborne Lodge Drive will be closed, in both directions, from West Road to the Queensway, the week of February 10th.

The stairs will be converted from the existing wooden staircase to a new metal staircase.

Signs will be posted throughout the park regarding the project and the road closure.

Sidewalk Snow Clearing Trial

This winter, Transportation Services will begin a trial that will mechanically clear sidewalks of snow and ice in some areas where this service is currently not provided by the City. The trial will evaluate new, smaller equipment, which will be tested in areas of the city with a high number of households enrolled
in a program where Transportation provides sidewalk snow clearing services for seniors or persons with disabilities, in areas that do not receive mechanical clearing. As part of the trial, a full assessment and inventory of sidewalk widths, obstructions and other obstacles, such as utility poles, planters, retaining walls and areas with on-street parking adjacent to the sidewalk, will be completed by staff this year to determine the feasibility of providing mechanical clearing to unserved sidewalks in the city.
