Safe at Home Round Table Discussion

Posted on January 3, 2017

The Dream Team is a consumer/survivor run group dedicated to advocacy, education and research in the areas of supportive housing, mental health, discrimination and stigma.

The Dream Team has been working on the “Safe at Home” project (funded by the City of Toronto) to create awareness about a growing problem in our communities involving unit takeovers: when a vulnerable resident finds themselves in an unsafe living situation due to the presence of an individual that often exploits them financially and is harmful to them physically, financially, and psychologically.

On Friday January 6th, 2017 from 1-3 pm, everyone is welcome to their first of two Round Table Discussions at City Hall – Committee Hall 2. They will be sharing their data collected so far from interviews and surveys, but are primarily looking to gain information from you and other stakeholders about your experiences, and hear feedback on their developing research. The goal is to ensure that their information is useful and applicable to all stakeholders as they will ultimately be developing a report as well as educational materials about unit takeovers. These materials will be discussed at the second Round Table Discussion (date TBA).

The meeting will be recorded digitally as well as with a manual note taker. This is to ensure that the information gathered is accurate, but will be kept as confidential as possible.

Please RSVP and/or direct and inquiries to:
