Mandatory downspout disconnection is already in effect for most of Toronto, with the final (third) area of the
city required to disconnect this week: December 3, 2016.
Disconnecting downspouts reduces the amount of rainwater that enters the sewer system, which helps:
-Keep the system from overloading
-Reduce the risk of basement flooding
-Decrease the release of polluted rainwater runoff into local waterways
