Minutes for the November 1, 2016 special meeting of the Executive Committee are now available on the City’s website here: http://app.toronto.ca/tmmis/decisionBodyProfile.do?function=doPrepare&meetingId=12291
Justice Michael Tulloch has been asked to conduct an independent review of the police oversight bodies in Ontario: the Special Investigations Unit, the Office of the Independent Police Review Director and the Ontario Civilian Police Commission. The purpose of his review will be:
- to make recommendations on how to enhance the transparency and accountability of the police oversight bodies while preserving fundamental rights;
- to ensure the police oversight bodies are effective and have clear mandates; and
- to reduce overlap and inefficiencies between these bodies.
A final report containing all recommendations will be delivered to the Attorney General no later than March 31, 2017 and will be made available to the public.
As part of the mandate, he is engaging in public discussions. A public consultation meeting will be held at Metro Hall on Thursday November 10th from 6-8pm. For more information about the review, you may visit the website at www.policeoversightreview.ca.
He gives his thanks and looks forward to your involvement in this consultation process.
