TPS Carding Policy

Posted on April 16, 2015

Today, myself and fourteen of my colleagues signed the following letter to the Toronto Police Services Board, urging the Board to reaffirm its commitment to end carding.

Re: Community Engagement (carding) Policy

We, the undersigned Toronto City Councillors strongly disagree with the proposed modified community engagement, or carding, policy being brought before the Board today. This compromise policy does not serve the public interest, does not represent our City’s values and commitment to diversity, and will not be in the best interests of good police-community relations in the long term.

We urge the Board to re-affirm its commitment to its previously approved policy of April, 2014 and direct Toronto’s new Chief of Police to implement this policy immediately upon taking office.
