Warmer weather is coming and with it comes winter debris and litter. It’s spring clean-up time!

The City kicks things off with the interdivisional clean up which features several hundred city staff cleaning up litter, removing graffiti, and hauling away dead trees and branches from City property.

More than 500 staff participate in the clean-up effort.  Three hundred pieces of equipment are involved, including 50 litter vacuums, 45 sweepers, 20 front-end loaders, 50 stake trucks, 11 collection trucks and 60 pickup trucks.

– Schools must register with their respective School Boards, either the Toronto District School Board or the Toronto Catholic District School Board, not with the City or local Councillor.

– Each Board asks students to reuse a plastic grocery-size bag from home to collect their litter.

– Whenever possible, organizations and individuals are asked to put any recyclables collected in their institutional or residential recycling carts and bins.

-The City of Toronto Solid Waste Management Collection staff does not collect any of the items listed in SCHEDULE C TO CH. 844 PROHIBITED WASTE of the TORONTO MUNICIPAL CODE.
